Your wedding vows:
Some couples choose repeat after me vows, some couples choose to write their own vows. Couples have also requested both, repeat after me, and then saying their own wedding vows; read off a paper, memorized, or from the heart making it up as they go.
Couples will sometimes talk about how they met, the qualities that they like about each other, a funny story or shared experience, their promises to each other regarding their future together. Basically whatever the couple wants to say to each other that they feel is relevant for the occasion and not too extreme for all those listening.
Playing:
Although, being a little irrelevant and a little extreme (playing) can also make for a memorable wedding ceremony that will be talked about and remembered, and not your usual cookie cutter wedding ceremony (just my opinion).
For example, at my brother’s wedding. He thought it would be funny for the best man and the groomsmen to pretend that the rings were missing. The best man and groomsmen asked each other for the rings, looked through their pockets, turned them inside out, and after a little bit of fumbling on our part, the rings appeared.
This playing made it more fun for us, and probably tensed the audience for a moment or two before they realized it was staged.
